Apple revealed the latest model in their line of smart watches.
While Apple’s live stream event marked the debut of two new smart phones, the company also revealed their newest smart watch. The Apple Watch Series 3 is the next iteration after Apple’s Series 2 model and makes a large step forward in wearable technology.
The biggest feature of the Apple Watch Series 3 is its addition of built-in cellular connectivity. Whether it’s connected to a nearby phone or not, Apple Watch Series 3 users will be able to make and receive calls and messages from the watch alone. This advancement brings the smart watch the closest it has ever been to being an independent mobile device.
“We believe the addition of cellular will transform the way people use Apple Watch, providing a new sense of freedom since they can stay connected with or without their iPhone.” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.
Though cellular connectivity is definitely the most notable feature of the Apple Watch Series 3, there are a slew of other new features as well. Including a 70 percent faster dual-core processor and running on watchOS 4, users will be able to stream all their favourite songs through Apple Music 40 million song library. The Series 3 features coaching assistance for those who looking to use the device during work outs, also including a new marometric altimeter in order to measyre eleavation. The new smart watch will also be water-resistant for up 50 metres.
Like the upcoming iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, preorders for the Apple Watch Series 3 will begin on September 15. A model of the watch with GPS and cellular connectivity will be available in 10 select countries. A separate model only consisting of GPS connectivity will be available in 28 different countries. Both models of the Apple Watch Series 3 will be in stores on September 22.
