The critically acclaimed city-building video game Cities: Skylines will soon be making its console debut. Previously, as of March 10, 2015, this SimCity-type game was only available on PC (through Steam). However, on April 21, 2017, this is all set to change.
On that date, Cities: Skylines will be released for the Xbox One console. Fans of Nintendo and Sony will still be a little disappointed, but beggars can’t be choosers. It is also set to include most of the content from the original game. As fans of the game know, shortly after its initial release it received a DLC pack. This pack was highly touted for adding a night cycle; which altered the functions of the cities. The Xbox One version is set to include this previously downloadable content. However, it will not include the “Natural Disasters” and “Snowfall” expansions.
For those who have no earthly idea what this game entails, it follows the formula of SimCity. It is an open-world, city-building simulation game; meaning that it all centers around cities and urban planning. While taking part in the urban planning process (which can include transportation of the area, public services, taxation), players are also required to maintain certain aspects of the city (mood, health, budget).
From the start, this simulator was a success. Within 24 hours of its launch, it became publisher Paradox’s fastest-selling game. Expect those numbers to increase after it gets released for the Xbox One (even if it hasn’t kept up with the PlayStation 4). Even though this game will not make its Xbox debut until April 21, as of right now it is available for pre-order at the Microsoft Store. At $39.99, it is a little cheaper than getting the full Steam version (with all the DLC). However, as previously noted, the Steam version does include more downloadable content.
