CD PROJEKT RED Annunces GWENT Beta on PlayStation 4 1

There’s no denying that despite its playable development status, players really like the card game based on a Witcher mini-game Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. PlayStation 4 owners will be able to jump in and try it out as a Gwent technical beta has been announced.

The Gwent beta will run over the course of the weekend starting March 31, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. EST until April 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. according to developer CD PROKEKT RED.  Players in North and South America along with Europe can access the technical beta through the PlayStation Store. The technical Gwent beta will be available in a variety of languages including English, German, Russian, French, Brazilian-Portuguese, Spanish, Latin American-Spanish, and Polish.

The idea behind this is to see how Gwent runs on the PlayStation 4 with multiple users in-game. There will be no in-game purchases available, but players will be able to build their own decks and play online casual matches, or try out the tutorial.

For those unfamiliar with Gwent, it’s a standalone title based off an actual game inside The Witcher in the vein of Hearthstone.  Players will face off in a best of three series as they try to cast spells and unleash special abilities against their real life opponents.

Gwent is developed by CD PROJECKT RED, a polish studio known for The Witcher series, which has moved 20 million copies across the globe. The latest entry in the franchise, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched in 2015 to critical and consumer acclaim, racking in 250 Game of the Year Awards (including one from us), even though CGM’s own Editor Brendan Quinn does not agree. In our own review, Wayne Santos gave it an eight and a half out of 10 saying “In some respects, The Witcher III shares a lot of similarities with recent Bethesda and BioWare games.”
