When it comes to life simulation games, Harvest Moon has certainly left its mark on the gaming industry. We have this year’s hit indie release Stardew Valley thanks to the series, too. But now, Yasuhiro Wada is working on a brand new game. Entitled Birthdays the Beginning, a bit more information was revealed today upon the official unveiling of the title’s gameplay.
The announcement trailer, which was launched during this year’s Tokyo Game Show, shows off some of the features that players can expect when the game comes out. Birthdays the Beginning appears to be a world simulator, in which the player shapes a landscape for living creatures to grow and thrive on. Depending on the geography that the player develops, weather can impact and affect the way animals survive. A wide variety of creatures will feature, too: everything from small mice to dinosaurs, seacreatures to birds. You can also show off screenshots of your world with PlayStation 4’s Share feature.
It’s hard to say what else will be included in Birthdays the Beginning at the moment. There seems to be a level up feature, an ability to capture or index animals and a life cycle at play here that allows some animals to adapt as others fade away. Geography will certainly play a major role in what each player’s world will look like.
Birthdays the Beginning will launch in Japan on January 19th, 2017. NIS America will be handling the game’s release in North America and Europe, but a North American release date has yet to be announced. The game is also a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but there is no word yet on whether the title will support 4K or HDR graphics. Granted, with last week’s PlayStation Meeting officially unveiling the PlayStation 4 Pro, it’s a safe bet to say that at least the former will be covered. Until then, stay tuned for more news as the Birthdays the Beginning‘s trailer is translated and analyzed over the next couple days.
