Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive 2

Konami is not going to let a little thing like losing the series creator, Hideo Kojima, stop them from making a new Metal Gear instalment. Today at Gamescom, the latest in the Metal Gear franchise was announced, Metal Gear Survive.

Taking place directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, where the surviving members of Militaires Sans Frontières are transported to an alternative timeline through a mysterious wormhole. Here they must work together to fight off crystal zombies and possibly a Metal Gear.

“We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the METAL GEAR franchise,” said Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. European President Tomotada Tashiro in a press release,  “Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience.”

Moving away from the typical Metal Gear formula, Metal Gear Survive will be a cooperative game. Players must work together to stay alive in a harsh new landscape. Working with the surviving soldiers from Motherbase in a 4 players co-op experience that is hoping to take the Metal Gear Solid franchise in a new exciting direction. The game is said to follow the high level of gameplay design seen with Metal Gear Solid V while continuing the “unique blend of stealth and co-op play mechanics”

Releasing on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in 2017, Metal Gear Survive is will be the first completely new Metal Gear Solid game released from Konami completely without Kojima at the helm. It will be a new take on the formula, hopefully, it will keep the spirit and core that Metal Gear such an iconic series. Judging from the trailer it has looks more akin to Metal Gear Solid Online then what was seen in the core Metal Gear Solid V, but until more gameplay is revealed we will have to wait and see.
