Two New Batman Games Announced by Warner Bros.

Two new Batman titles set in the established Arkham universe of games are in the works from Warner Bros. Interactive.

Announced as Game Informer’s cover for their upcoming issue, Batman: Arkham Origins will follow a younger caped crusader as he comes across some of his most iconic enemies for the first time. This plot falls in line with the rumours from last year, suggesting that the next Arkham game would take place in the Silver Age era of comics (not necessarily taking on the campy tone though) and focus on the original meeting with Joker.

In a bit of surprising news, the game isn’t being developed Rocksteady Studios, the team behind both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Instead this game is being worked on by Warner Bros. Games Montreal.

Warner Bros. will also be putting out a portable game in the same universe, titled Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. Details on the plot of the game are still scarce, but it’s being headed up by Armature Studio (a studio formed by former Metroid Prime developers) and will be a “2.5-D Metroid-style” game.

Both games will be released on the same day on Oct. 25, 2013 with Batman: Arkham Origins being available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, as well as PC, and the portable Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate seeing a release on 3DS and Vita. There is no mention of a release on next gen platforms.
