Fortnite Passes 200 Million Players, Announces Item Gifting 1

The dance-heavy, meme-tastic world of Fortnite continues to soar, as the game has officially passed the 200 million player mark.

According to Bloomberg, the massively popular arena shooter has seen its player count rise by more than 75 million since it was last reported in June. Not only that, but the overall player base is now five times what it was in January of this year. A significant reason for the continued success of Fortnite is the consistent updates and patches that the development team has been releasing.

Speaking of updates, item gifting will be available for one week following the release of update patch 6.31. The patch launched earlier today and after the week is finished the gifting functionality will apparently cease to exist. The actual sending of a gift is rather easy, as players can simply select an item from Fortnite’s in-game store and choose the ‘Buy as Gift’ option. From there users can pick who they want to send the item too and even compose a personalized message.

There are a few limits on gift giving as you can only send three gifts a day, and they are not refundable. You also cannot send items from your inventory, as they need to be sent directly from the store. Even with the limits, this is a functionality that Fortnite fans have been requesting for a while and it should make for some happy players. It remains to be seen if gifting will ever find a permanent home in Fortnite, or if it will be reserved for limited time frames only.

Fortnite was originally released back in September of 2017 and is playable on PlayStation 4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Mac OS. It’s also available in Beta form on Android devices.
