Smash Bros. Ultimate Story Mode Revealed Alongside New Fighters 9

Story mode is making its way back to the world of Super Smash Bros. in the form of an all-new adventure called World of Light.

World of Light was announced during today’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate video presentation, and the reveal trailer featured the kidnapping of every Smash Bros. character in existence, except Kirby. The clip also showed off a board game type overworld with various characters traversing and fighting on it. This marks the first and only time since Super Smash Bros. Brawl that a Smash Bros. game will feature a story mode. Nintendo also announced a slew of new announcements over the course of the direct, including a couple of new characters and plans for DLC.

The new fighters that are joining the base game are Ken, from the Street Fighter series, and Inceneroar, from the Pokemon series. The new characters bring the upcoming game’s total to 74, making it the largest in the series’ history. Not only that but players who pre-order the game will unlock Piranha Plant from the Super Mario series as a playable character free of charge.

Nintendo also announced that they will be adding at least five more characters to the game in the form of paid DLC over the course of the next year. The DLC will be released in five packs that feature one stage, one character and some musical pieces, and it will retail for $5.99 USD per pack, or $24.99 USD for all five.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was announced back in March of this year during a Nintendo Direct presentation. The game is set to launch on December 7th and you can preorder a copy of the game here.
