New Erebus Platform Added to Unreal Engine 4, Possibly PlayStation 5 1

The latest iteration of Unreal Engine 4 has come out and with it, the inclusion of a new platform, under the codename, Erebus, which many are speculating to be the codename for the PlayStation 5.

Among the usual suspects, which include both console and mobile platforms, a new platform under the name Erebus has been found in the latest Unreal Engine 4 build. Interestingly enough, the word Erebus is derived from Greek mythology, translating to deep darkness or shadow. Sony in the past, have shown interest in naming their unannounced platforms with words derived from Greek mythology, such as the PlayStation 4 being codenamed Orbis, and later, the PSVR, Morpheus.

With the release of the original PlayStation 4 launching all the way back in 2013, and with only a marginal refresh in 2016, with the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, an announcement regarding Sony’s next PlayStation, should be around the corner, regardless of whether or not Erebus turns out to be Sony related.
