Google Revamps Google News Initiative, Newscast and More 2

Google News Initiative, a  recently launched venture that aims to help grow and innovative the world of journalism and news on a global scale.

Through the power of AI, google will suss out the best of the best and give users the most meaningful and most full perspective through a newly revamped Google News feature. The three pillars of the new Google News will focus on giving users easy access in keeping up with the news they care about, understand the full story and enjoying the content, all through the use of smart, machine-learning, with little to no need of users to manually search for things they want to consume or learn about.

Newscast is a new feature for Google News that gives users a unique and custom tailored landing page on their phones or smart device that automatically organizes types of media, such as videos and articles related to the same story, putting it all together in one, cohesive package, with fact-checks, deep analysis to make sure the user gets the best, most accurate source of news on any given topic, all done live, making it easier and safer, to follow breaking stories as they happen.

Subscriptions to premium news outlets can now easily be done through Google News, without the need of manually putting in credit card and other information by the end-user, if so desired. Google News will be available in 127 countries on both Android and iOS, starting today, with a global roll-out planned for sometime later this week.

Google Maps will be able to update faster and more accurately, thanks to having access directly from satellite feeds and camera archives, allowing more rural places and places that have changing infrastructure to be updated faster.

A new tab called “For You” will be added to Google Maps, giving users custom tailored suggestions for places specified by the users, such as local neighbourhoods or frequently visited locations. Another Google Maps feature called “Your Match” will suggest restaurants and other venues that are specifically catered to the end-user through the power of machine learning.

Shortlist will be a new menu that helps groups of friends find places they like to eat — by isolating and learning the eating habits of friends, shortlist will automatically create a list of popular favourites, eliminating the need of texting back and forth or spending time finding a place that everyone agrees with.

Innovations in camera technology will now allow problems such as helping people travel, for example when your phone says head south, now through the use of the camera, an arrow will be placed on top of the video feed, telling you where to head, without having to guess where south actually is. Google Lens will also be incorporated into camera apps, essentially making the camera, a smart camera, capable of understanding what is front of you, such as a breed of dog, or landmark.

Viewing text through the camera can now directly be translated to text on your device, making things like recipes, menus and other written documents easy to digest and understand.

Waymo, Google’s self-driving car technology features a fleet of self-driving cars in places such as Arizona. A fully featured Waymo app will be deployed in Phonix Arizona, giving customers with access to a driver-less car any time they need it. Thanks to machine-learning, the ability to perceive pedestrians, objects and hazards have been improved 100x.
