Fortnite is Making a Mobile Transition

Fortnite is Making a Mobile Transition

Fortnite developer, Epic Games has announced that the popular arena shooter will be available on iOS and Android devices.

The port will be available on both mobile devices and tablets and Epic Games promises that it will be the same 100-player game that anyone can try on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Fortnite will contain all of the same gameplay mechanics, along with all of the maps and regular weekly updates that are released with the console and PC versions of the game.

Fortnite Battle Royale will also feature mobile support cross play and cross-progression. Those who own the game on PlayStation 4, PC and Mac, will find they will be fighting against others who are playing Fortnite via their mobile devices. Users will also be able to sync up their already existing accounts to their phones and tablets.

Notably missing from the list of cross-play functionality, is the Xbox One. In a recent Epic Games blog post, the company does mention that the cross-platform function is “in partnership with our friends at Sony.” This could explain why Microsoft is getting the short end with cross-play. There is evidence that cross-play between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is possible. Last year there was a configuration issue between the two consoles and PlayStation 4 players found that they were fighting against Xbox One players in Fortnite. Epic Games came out with a statement saying that it was an unintended mistake and has since fixed the issue.

Fortnite Battle Royal first released in July of 2017 and has since become very popular among the gaming community. In the game, players must use their surroundings and try to survive this co-op arena shooter. Players can deconstruct their environments to build various structures that can act as cover or be the foundations for a fort. The goal is to be the last one standing by surviving a 50-versus-50 all out deathmatch.

A beta will be available for iOS and Android users on March 12, 2018.
