Creator of Iconic Villain Moving on from Marvel

Creator of Iconic Villain Moving on from Marvel 1

With all of the hype surrounding Avengers: Infinity War, one would think that Marvel would be doing it’s best to hold onto the creator of the film’s major antagonist. However, Thanos creator, Jim Starlin, is cutting all ties with Marvel Comics.

“I am moving on,” says Starlin.

The writer and artist was working on a series of comics titled, Thanos: The Infinity Siblings. However, he will no longer be involved in the trilogy after the first one is released in February, 2018.

In a statement on Facebook, Starlin said, “What I objected to and what will be keep me from doing any further work for Marvel Editorial was [executive editor] Tom Brevoort approving a plot for the current on-going [Thanos] series, which was pretty much the same as the Thanos story arc in the graphic novel trilogy Alan Davis and I have been working on for Tom for close to the past year. He had 200 pages of script and 100 pages of pencils on this project when he gave the green light to a strikingly similar plot. The on-going will be in print before the graphic novel trilogy. To avoid spoiling anyone’s enjoyment of these two stories I will not be summarizing the striking similarities.”

In his post, Starlin added that he had fought to be the writer of the new monthly Thanos series alongside the trilogy, but Marvel chose to go in another direction. This isn’t the first time Starlin and Marvel have clashed, as he was vocal about his displeasure with the financial compensations he was receiving after the release of 2012’s Avengers, where Thanos was first revealed.

While Starlin and the Marvel comics division may have had a major falling out, it’s worth noting that he feels that the movie division has “treated [him] very well.”
