Sources: Gazillion Shutting Down Marvel Heroes, Jobs Lost 2

The Diablo-like Marvel Heroes will be shut down earlier than originally thought, and with that comes major job losses at Gazillion.

It was reported that Marvel Heroes would be shuttered on December 30, 2017, but a recent series of reports has outlined that this is happening much earlier than anticipated. According to reports, Gazillion, developer of the action RPG, will be shutting everything down November 24, 2017.

Worse still, recent information indicates the entire studio will close, meaning all employees will be let go with no PTO or severance pay. Many former employees have taken to Twitter to let this outrage be known, including former Gazillion engineer Andrew Hair.

“I know a lot of people are upset and wanting refunds for their purchases in @MarvelHeroes, but please keep in mind the developers were not paid out PTO, severance, and our medical insurance is ending in 8 days,” he said in a tweet.

A statement from Disney about the closure outlined that, “We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”

Marvel Heroes first launched in 2013 for PC to mixed reviews but saw improved response as the game evolved to the ultimate relaunch in 2015 that saw many of the game’s problems addressed in some form. The game was free-to-play with players able to purchase specific characters such as Spider-Man and Storm. The game was ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms earlier this year.

Our thoughts are with all employees affected this closure and wish them the best through this difficult time.
