You can now save money every day of the week.

Everybody knows that Steam has great game deals, and now they’ll be coming at you even more frequently thanks to Valve’s new Daily Deals initiative. For the most part, it’s exactly what you’d expect. The company will announce a new deal every 24 hours (check Twitter and Facebook), and every title will offer the kind of value that people associate with Steam. Up first is Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, which is now available for $5 thanks to a healthy 75% discount. The game could be different by the time you read this, but Valve will display the current deal on the Steam website and in the download client, so it should be easy to figure out what’s available.

While the program could be a drain on your free time, it’s otherwise tough to see a downside to the initiative. I spent my university years surviving on budget game deals, and it’s a great way to catch up on titles you may have missed the first time around. The costs will add up at $5 a day, so I’d suggest waiting to purchase games that you actually intend to play, but you’ll at least want to keep an eye on the store if there’s a particular title you’re looking for.

Then again, you could just buy everything if you want to play it safe. There’s no telling when you’ll get the urge to play some Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.
