The Darkness II developer will soon be expanding with the help of the provincial government.

The London, Ontario-based Digital Extremes is currently hard at work on The Darkness 2, and – thanks to the Ontario government – they’ll soon be working in a slightly larger studio. The provincial government has given the developer a $2.5 million grant to fund a move to a new 33,000 sq. ft. space located at City Plaza in London. Digital Extremes also plans to hire 30 new employees, raising the head count at the studio to around 180 people.

The grant – coupled with the $4 million that was awarded to Silicon Knights in 2010 – once again demonstrates why Ontario has become such a desirable destination for developers. The government is committed to the industry, and the $2.5 million indicates that the trend is likely to continue in the years to come.
