The proposed building will house more than 1500 employees.

The Japanese giant will be pouring in over 12 billion yen (or approximately $154M) on a new R&D facility that will be located in the Higashikujo Matsudacho area of Kyoto’s Minami Ward, putting the new R&D site closer to Nintendo’s head office — a building also located in Minami Ward. When completed, the new complex will house 1,500 employees and will act as Nintendo’s main R&D facility.

Nintendo purchased the 40,582 square meter plot of land that will become the new facility back in 2008, and the news about the R&D first broke in 2009. Construction won’t begin until January 2012 and won’t be completed until 2013.
